'Deep work' will make you better at what you do. You will certainly attain a lot more in less time. As well as feel the sense of real fulfillment that comes from the mastery of a skill.
Cal Newport is an Assistant Professor of Computer Technology at Georgetown University. Along with examining the theoretical foundations of our digital age, Newport likewise blogs about the impact of these modern technologies on the world of job. His newest publication, Deep Work, argues that emphasis is the brand-new I.Q. in the modern office which the ability to focus without distraction is ending up being increasingly useful. He formerly composed So Great They Can Not Disregard You, a publication which exposes the long-held idea that "follow your interest" is great suggestions, and also 3 prominent books of non-traditional recommendations for trainees.

If YouTube is social media, it deserves a category of it’s own. It feels different than all the other ones. I learn so much from YouTube.
Oh you are right! I can live without other social media but not youtube!
No, not unless the use is intentional and not compulsive. It’s a induced delusion to think that YouTube or searching facts online are making us productive in terms of gaining knowledge but that certainly is not the case. According to many researches done in this field, it’s found that overload of information is making our working memory work excessively resulting in majority of information consumed not entering into the long term memory in the first place, lack of contemplation, reflection, genuine perception and deep thinking.
Our minds are not evolved to consume large amounts of information in short time. Though, we’ll get used to it in future but that would cost our focus, and all the other things I mentioned above.
It’d be better off to read books as they stimulate the deep thinking part in your brain resulting in information consumed actually entering and modifying itself in the long term memory.
I don’t know if I’m an admirer of tech but I also use YT occassionally as it provides me with more insights towards the things I care about. I think the key is to use technology intentionally instead of being used by it
Youtube is a place for entertainment and learning, as well as Facebook or Instagram. But those two later are more addictive
It used to. But now I’m addicted to YouTube shorts and tbh i think I could count the normal videos I’ve watched in past couple of months on the fingers of one hand.
Agree
I deleted my social media when I was 22. Got closer to God, Started educating myself on different topics, just in general upgraded myself. Highly recommend it.
Thank you for this 💕
That’s amazing !!
What did you do with your life?
Thank you,Asia, for sharing that with us. It’s very inspiring
“Got closer to God.”
I swear Christians are off their rocker. Religion has become as toxic as social media is. God isn’t some long lost relative. He doesn’t exist.
I’m with you on everything else though.
Quitting social media is easy. I already did it 7 times.
Yess me too😂
😂😂
Hahaha
Zuckerberg trapped you & millions as rats in a cage using your dopamine weakness.
Kkkk
I’m 18 , I had a meme Instagram account with 10.7k followers and growing everyday, had a meme Twitter account with 3500+ and growing everyday and I just left that all behind and uninstalled everything and ready to get back closer with God and focuse more on my studies and future , I’m sick and tired of sitting in front of my pc and phone just sharing memes and playing video games , I want to become a Better person
dude you literally spoke to me I’m litterally going through this right now I want to spend time with God and quit and focus on my studies but I can’t do you have any way I can contact you so we can help each other through?
It’s good that you took those hours and created great entertainment for people though. Some of your memes probably made their day!
❤❤❤
So Happy for you
Man, your decision was brilliant ! I apreciate you for doing this.
I am 33 years old and I quit social media about 6 months ago. I feel much happier. I noticed I got closer to the people that matter in my life (planning get togethers, texting, calling, FaceTime). Now I see social media as filling your mind with nonsense.
Absolutely! It is amazing how much closer you get to your friends and family by just simply deleting your social media accounts.
Wish me good luck
omg…I am 33 years old as well and I quit social media about 6 months ago too and I feel much happier. I know am reading your comment a year apart but the timing of it corresponds to mine so perfectly. I smiled.❤️ Am Esther, nice to meet you Edwin.
@E M Hi Esther. I’m Edwin. And I am still off social media and am happy. Good luck to you! 😃
@Edwin Vargas Nice to hear that, congratulations Edwin! Thank you for responding to my reply.😊
i’m 18 and i’ve been on social media since i was around 11. most of my adolescent/teenage life has been online and now i’m ready to let it go! deleted all my socials a few weeks ago and i already feel so much better!
are you still off social media , speak truth and did you m,iss any fun there
@divam @better not revealing i have been quitting mainstream platforms for nearly 7 months. Facebook, instagram, and then the latest one that i quit is Messengers. I still have friends outside if thosr but friends that I value as my closest brothers. During my “offline” time, i occasionally miss out some of the life events that others are sharing, maybe my ex-best friend or former friends. I think the fun can be found everywhere, from your family or even yourself. The matter of fun in this is you can find more confident in identifying, valueing and loving yourself more rather than spending times looking at other’s highlights on the mainstream social media.
@bratzbabe did u go back
I saw your comment about the flip phone. Did u get it?
Same!!! I’m 21 and it’s insane how quickly my anxiety has lessened without it. It took a few tries to actually stay off it but now I’m feeling the benefits. Hope you are too!
If you’re not paying for a product, you’re the product
@Not-even -German I don’t get it
On GOD
Already.
That’s why they’re pushing the idea that we are our own brand. It’s true, they’re selling our data and info
I laughed for real 😂 thank you so much for making me smile
I’m going to delete instagram now and i just wanna say that if some of yall are scared that you are gonna lose your friends, dont. because your real friends are gonna find a way to keep in touch with you!
I’m sure it’s going great, she found herself.
I deleted my social accounts too. It’s really not that great of a deal. Now when I think about it, I realise how petty this whole phenomenon actually is. People constantly seeking validation from other people who they don’t even know. Constant degradation of self.
This is so damnn trueee. I was an active user of instagram, now only use whatsapp and i still have friends to talk infact real friends who found a way to talk to me.
i wish they would still make way because right now i am still up but my messaging is empty 🤣🤣🤣
@TheUglyTruth 🤣😂😂 had me broke
5 weeks without social media,
Able to get quality sleep,
Very well focused in my work (personal & prof.)
Less amount of time spend on my phone,
And to surprisingly feeling healthy and can literally feel positive energy in my body.
I quit social media before the pandemic. Now I’m in Med School and my free time is dedicated to God and my favorite books. I’ve also quit TV and all streaming services. Time here on earth is too short. Focus on what’s everlasting.
“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”
James 4:14
Amen
Based
God and favorite books for the win.
Focus on what’s everlasting 🖤
@Cat N Ladies and gentlemen, we got ’em
I am so happy to see that people like Dr. Cal still exist. Thank you for sharing.
by Quitting social media ( IG, Tictok, etc) you gonna experience
1. less anxiety
2. less sense of comparison
3. more peace of mind
4. more productive days
5. more realness
6. more sense of presence
and the list goes on!
I’ve deleted tt because it just took my time, but Instagram I want because I’d like to see the news and stuff
pain.
U missed free dom of speech and being able to have ur own opinion
facebook has given me a lot of anxiety and has taken my peace of mine away, also made me unproductive. Self esteem has plummeted.
@Sam Morgan LMAO
This is definitely one of the most important topics of the modern age.
Cool seeing your channel commented here. I’m a big fan!
“I deleted all my social media accounts, and I regreted it.”
– Said no one ever.
Yes because where would they say it, they have no social media
tại sao lại hối hận?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@Linh Luu dòng cuối có viết: said no one ever, có nghĩa là ko có ai nói hối hận cả đó bạn 🤣
@Mai Vo adu :)))) à nhỉ :)) cảm ơn bạn
I predict one day everybody will become focused on being present in the moment and social media will just be a thing of the past.
Looking forward to that day
Looking forward for that great days
Early 2000s internet was the best, if anything i hope at least things went back to that era
Nah, I think is becoming even new reality
It’s been 8 months I am social media sober. Results? Less anxiety, less comparison, lesser urge to buy anything new, zero toxic people in my life, more productivity, and even if I still don’t have everything in my life (infact it’s more or less same), I am content with what I have. It’s not like your life will take 360 degree turn immediately, it will be a really slow process but you will get there if you make conscious effort, otherwise people were lazy even before social media as well. It’s all about making effort to make your life better.
That is true. I’ve been off social media as a resolution for this year and hope to sustain this for the long run. I can feel the difference already!
We’re better off working on our goals and getting them accomplished. Less technology and more money in life is literally paradise on Earth.
This comment section is so overwhelming guys. I don’t know why but I feel like crying 🥺. And this content on its own is what teenagers need these days. I have quit social medias. In truth, they’re highly addictive. It’s was a hard time quiting it. YouTube on the other hand isn’t so addictive like the rest of the others. Thank you sir. You’re impacting the mind of lots❤️god bless you
When deleting my social media 2.5 years ago, I realised two things:
1) nobody really gave a sh*t about me
2) I am much happier
✅✅✅✅
@star 3 but my nternet friends are really nice, i have been talking them since 2 years. i dont wanna loose them and at same time i want to leave social media, what should i do
@Good Vibes not really, I am jusst searching for something I care aboit, not searchinh for the news
@Thanh Trúc That’s something you can’t do in social media?
@Good Vibes dont get what you means, but in my way, I use it just for learning something new, not looki g for “the news”, so in this way it is not social media for me
I quit social media on September 2020 and started using it again in August 2021 and I can say that during those 11 months I was most productive. It was my class 12th I was able to study very well and I felt free. Whenever I went outside with my friends or someone they wanted good pictures to post stories, send snaps etc. But I was feeling so good that I don’t have to do any of these. I restarted it in August and now my anxiety level is beyond limits. I came here so that I get motivated to take that step again
As a 20 year old coming into 2022, I can without question of doubt say that my generation will be negatively impacted by this inability to focus due to social media. Why sit in lectures/classes when people can make thousands on Tiktok.
Our view of success is changing, not always in the best way…
